  Q: How to inspect and replace rubber brake hoses and Brake Line in a Nissan 350Z's braking system?

  A: About every six months, with the vehicle raised and supported securely on jackstands, the rubber hoses which connect the steel brake lines with the front and rear brake assemblies should be inspected for cracks, chafing of the outer cover, leaks, blisters and other damage. To replace the hoses, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then unscrew the brake line fitting from the hose, remove the U-clip from the female fitting at the frame bracket, remove the banjo filling bolt from the caliper end of the hose, remove the fasteners from the hose blocks at the steering knuckle and shock absorber, detach the hose, attach the hose to the steering knuckle and shock absorber, connect the fitting to the caliper with the banjo bolt and new sealing washers, push the metal support into the frame bracket and install the U-clip, connect the brake line filling, start the threads by hand, then tighten the filling securely, bleed the caliper, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque the Specifications, check the master cylinder fluid level and add fluid as necessary, and bleed the brake system and test the brakes carefully before driving the vehicle in traffic. Prefabricated brake line, with the tube ends already flared and fittings installed, is available at auto parts stores and dealer parts departments. When installing the new line, make sure it's securely supported in the brackets and has plenty of clearance between moving or hot components.
