Q: How to remove and replace the fuel level sensor unit, fuel filter, and fuel pump assembly?
A: The components of the fuel level sensor unit, fuel fitter and fuel pump assembly are not replaceable individually. The entire module must be replaced if any part of it is defective. To remove, first relieve the fuel pressure. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the rear seat cushion from the vehicle to gain access to the fuel pump. Remove the access cover for the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit assembly by turning the fuel pump/fuel level sensor inspection hole cover fasteners 90 degrees. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit by depressing the tang and disconnecting the electrical connector, then detach the fuel feed hose. Disconnect the hoses and lines from the fuel level sending unit/fuel pump assembly. To remove the quick connector, hold the sides of the connector, push in the tabs, and pull out the tube. Using a pair of channel locking pliers, turn the lock ring on the assembly counterclockwise. Remove the lock ring from the assembly. Lift the fuel pump module from the Fuel Tank. Manipulate it as you lift so you don't bend the float arm. The fuel level sensor is secured with a tang; depress it, then slide the sensor downward. To install, replace the O-ring seal. Carefully lower the fuel pump module into the fuel tank. Rotate the assembly until the alignment mark is facing the front of the vehicle. The fuel pump line must point to the front of the vehicle for correct alignment. Install the lock ring and tighten it by reversing the technique. Reconnect the hoses and electrical connector, then reinstall the access cover. Reinstall the rear seat cushion. Reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.
