Nissan Titan Water Pump Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to replace a water pump in a Nissan Titan's cooling system?
A: Drain the cooling system. If the coolant is relatively new or in good condition, save it and reuse it. Remove the engine cover. Remove the air intake duct between the throttle body and the air filter housing. Loosen, but do not remove, the mounting fasteners on the water pump pulley. For 2010 Armada models, remove the belt-driven engine cooling fan. Remove the lower radiator hose. For all models, remove the drivebelt. Remove the water pump pulley mounting fasteners, then remove the pulley. Remove the water pump mounting bolts, then detach the water pump from the engine. Check the impeller on the backside for evidence of corrosion or missing fins. Compare the new pump to the old one to make sure they're identical. Remove all traces of the old gasket from the engine as necessary. Carefully attach the pump to the engine and thread the bolts into the holes finger tight. Tighten the bolts, a little at a time, to the torque. Don't over tighten the bolts or the pump may be distorted. Reinstall all parts removed for access to the pump. Refill and bleed the cooling system. Run the engine and check for leaks and proper operation.
