Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, remove the left-side under-dash panel, the knee bolster and its reinforcement, roll-pin from the parking brake handle shaft, clip securing the cable casing to the bracket, accelerator pedal stop from the floor, left-side kick panel and the sill plates, peel back the driver's side carpet, unbolt the cable casing from the floor pan, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, unscrew the adjuster nut at the cable equalizer or lever, detach the cable casing from any other brackets that may be present, pull it through the floor pan into the interior of the vehicle, if you're working on a 2WD Frontier, loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, unscrew the adjusting nut and detach the rear cable from the lever, unscrew any bracket securing bolts and detach the cable from the frame rails, remove the rear brake shoes and detach the cable from the Lever on the trailing brake shoe, unbolt the cable casing from the backing plate, remove the center console, unplug the electrical connector for the parking brake warning light switch, remove the parking brake cable adjusting nut, remove the two bolts from the parking brake lever base, remove the two cable housing nuts just behind the equalizer and disengage the rear cables from the equalizer, make sure the parking brake is completely released, loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, remove the wheel, remove the brake drum and brake shoes, and disconnect the cable from the parking brake levers on the trailing shoes, unbolt the cable retainer from the backing plate and pull the cable through the backing plate, unbolt any cable brackets from the underbody, remove the cable housing nuts just behind the equalizer and disengage the cables from the equalizer. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to adjust the cable and apply a light coat of grease to the portion of the cable end that engages with the equalizer, and where the rear ends of the cables engage with the levers on the trailing brake shoes.
