Remove the upper fasteners for the shock absorber, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed under the frame rails, remove the wheel, remove the ABS wheel speed sensor harness and brake hose from the shock absorber assembly, loosen the nut on the upper balljoint stud, disconnect the balljoint from the steering knuckle with a balljoint removal tool, carefully secure the steering knuckle aside, then move the shock absorber outward, remove the control arm mounting bolts and pull the upper arm from its frame brackets, check the balljoint for excessive play or looseness, check the condition of the rubber bushings, use a new cotter pin on the ballstud after installing the nut, tighten all fasteners to the torque values, raise the lower control arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height before tightening the upper control arm mounting bolts at the shock tower, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque, and have the front end alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.

Additionally, remove the shock absorber, the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle, and the control arm front pivot and rear mounting bracket fasteners.
