The coolant reservoir is mounted adjacent to the battery in the right front corner of the engine compartment on Xterra and Frontier models and on the opposite side of the engine compartment in the left front corner on Pathfinder models. Detach the hose from the reservoir, remove the reservoir retaining bolts and lift the reservoir straight up out of the bracket. Pour the coolant into a container, wash the reservoir inside and out, inspect it for cracks and chafing and replace it if necessary. Installation is the reverse of removal. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, set the parking brake and block the rear wheels, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, drain the cooling system, disconnect the automatic transmission cooler lines from the radiator if equipped, loosen the hose clamps, then detach the radiator hoses from the radiator, unbolt the small brackets that attach the top of the radiator to the radiator support, carefully lift out the radiator with the upper fan shroud attached, inspect the radiator for leaks and damage, bugs and dirt can be removed from the radiator by spraying with a garden hose nozzle from the back side, check the radiator mounts for deterioration and replace if necessary, guide the radiator into the mounts until they seat properly, refill and bleed the cooling system, start the engine and check for leaks, allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature, allow the engine to cool completely, then recheck the coolant level and add more if required, check and add automatic transmission fluid if needed.
