Before lifting the crankshaft out of the engine, it is advisable to mark the location and direction of the main bearing cap assembly using cast-in arrows or a number stamp/punch. Additionally, for 3.5L engines, the main bearing cap bolts should be inspected for excessive stretching, and if a difference of 0.0043 inch (0.11 mm) or larger in bolt diameter exists between indicated areas, the bolts must be replaced.
