- Q: How to remove the front coil springs and shock absorber and inspect them for damage on 2012 Nissan Sentra?A: The strut assembly must be removed after the loosening of the front wheel lug nuts followed by the lifting of the front part of the car and placing it on a jackstand and subsequently, the wheel must be taken off. Subsequently, remove the cowl cover and the wiring harness of the wheel speed sensor from the strut and then pull the brake hose to release the retainer clip and detach the hose from the bracket. Next, remove the cross member and dismantle the stabilizer bar link from the strut by disconnecting the nut Next, take off the strut-to-knuckle bolts with the help of the hammer and punch. Disconnect the strut from the steering knuckle, hold the strut and spring assembly with one hand and the other hand should unscrew the three upper mounting bolts thus pulling the assembly out of the fenderwell without unscrewing the the piston rod nut in the middle of the strut tower. In relation to inspection, it is advisable to inspect the strut body to establish any signs of leakage of fluid or any form of dent, crack or any signs of any serious structural damage it might be having before it is considered fit for use. Also, check the coil spring for deformation or presence of chipping/cracking of the overlay layer which accelerates corrosion failure of the component, and the spring seat for cut marks, hardness, and general degradation. If any of the mentioned undesirable conditions are recorded, go ahead and disassemble the strut.
