- Q: How to properly remove and replace the front crankshaft seal on a 2016 Nissan Rogue?A: Loosen the right front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the right front wheel. Next, take out the right inner fender splash shield and the drivebelt. Using a pin spanner, hold the crankshaft pulley to prevent it from turning while removing the crankshaft pulley bolt. Employ a puller to detach the pulley from the crankshaft, ensuring the proper adapter is used to avoid damaging the threads or end of the crankshaft, and that the puller's jaws grip the hub of the pulley rather than the outer diameter. To remove the seal, use a seal-puller tool or a screwdriver with a taped tip, taking care not to damage the seal bore or scratch the crankshaft snout. Clean the bore in the timing chain cover and apply engine oil or multi-purpose grease to the outer edge of the new seal, as well as lubricating the seal lips. Carefully drive the new seal into place using a seal driver or a socket slightly smaller than the seal's outside diameter, ensuring it is installed squarely and to the same depth as the original, while checking that the garter spring remains in place. Remember that the oil seat lip faces the engine and the dust seat lip faces the pulley.
