To remove the distributor, one must unfasten the retaining clips and lift the distributor cap straight up. In some cases, remove the spark plug wires from the cap one at a time, marking their positions. Disconnect where applicable, the distributor wiring harness and vacuum lines. The position of the rotor and scribe marks on the distributor base and engine block should be observed. The bolt that is holding the distributor to the engine should be removed carefully along with its assembly. To install a distributor, line up marks on distributor and engine with metal tips of rotor. Install distributors hold down bolt, leaving it loose for adjustment. Connect primary wire to coil then install distributor cap using spring clips. Install spark plug wires; ensure they are firmly pressed into distributor cap & onto spark plugs. Ignition timing can be adjusted when necessary. If crankshaft or camshaft has been rotated or engine disturbed follow procedure to initially time engine. Find number 1 cylinder firing position by checking ignition timing marks on front pulley of crankshaft. Turn the crankshaft until piston in number 1 cylinder is up on compression stroke. Lightly oil distributor housing and install it so that rotor points towards no 1 spark plug terminal when cap is installed . Ensure that reluctor teeth align with stator assembly . Install distributors hold down bolt and spark plug then proceed with installation of distributors . In case where there's a distributor fitted with crankangle sensor setup in an engine, similar steps should be followed during removal as well as installation process.
