Nissan Pathfinder Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install exhaust manifolds on 3.3L V6 Nissan Pathfinder?
A: The engine must be completely cool before beginning this procedure. REMOVAL: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Spray penetrating oil on the exhaust manifold fasteners and allow it to soak in. Working under the vehicle, disconnect the front exhaust pipes from the vehicle. On California models, detach the heat shields from the pre-catalytic converter, disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors and remove the pre-cat from the exhaust manifold. If both exhaust manifolds are being removed, both pre-catalytic converters or front exhaust pipes must be removed. On 2WD models, remove the front suspension crossmember first, to facilitate removal of the front exhaust pipes. For the left manifold, remove the air intake duct and the top half of air cleaner housing as an assembly from the throttle body. Disconnect the EGR flare tube from the exhaust manifold. Remove the bracket holding the engine oil dipstick. Remove the heat shield from the manifold to provide access to the manifold fasteners, and remove the upper row of manifold nuts. Work from the ends toward the middle when removing the manifold fasteners. Working from below, remove the lower row of manifold fasteners and remove the manifold from the engine. For the right manifold, working from above, remove the manifold heat shield. Remove the upper row of manifold nuts. Work from the ends toward the middle when removing the manifold fasteners. Working from below, remove the lower row of manifold fasteners and remove the manifold from the engine. INSTALLATION: Carefully inspect the manifolds and fasteners for cracks and damage. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces. If the gasket was leaking, have the manifold checked for warpage at an automotive machine shop and resurfaced if necessary. Position new gaskets over the cylinder head studs. Install the manifold and thread the mounting nuts into place. Working from the center out, tighten the nuts to the specific torque in three or four equal steps. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Use new gaskets when connecting the exhaust pipe flange connections. Run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
  • Q: How to remove and replace an exhaust manifold on 3.5L V6 Nissan Pathfinder?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the lower splash shield from below the engine if equipped. Remove the front exhaust pipe from the vehicle. Unbolt the lower heat shields and remove the catalytic converters from the exhaust manifolds. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connectors. Remove the heat shield from the manifold(s). Note: When removing the right exhaust manifold it will be necessary to remove the coolant tube from the right side of the engine. Also remove the power steering pump reservoir from the inner fenderwell and position it aside without disconnecting the fluid lines to allow access to the manifold. Remove the manifold-to-head nuts/bolts and detach the manifold and gaskets. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces. Position the new exhaust manifold gaskets over the studs on the cylinder head. Install the manifold and thread the mounting nuts/bolts into place. Working from the center out, tighten the nuts/bolts to the specific torque in three or four equal steps. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
  • Q: How to remove and replace an exhaust manifold on 2.4L four cylinder Nissan Pathfinder?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the engine splash shields if equipped. Working underneath the vehicle, disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold by removing the nuts retaining the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Applying penetrating oil to the exhaust manifold fasteners may make removing the nuts/bolts easier. Working in the engine compartment, remove the lower heat shield from the exhaust manifold by removing the bolts retaining the lower heat shield to the exhaust manifold and remove the heat shield. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor. Remove the upper heat shield from the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the EGR pipe from the exhaust manifold. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts, working from the outside toward the middle, and detach the manifold and gaskets. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the exhaust manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces. Position the new exhaust manifold gaskets over the cylinder head studs. Install the manifold and thread the mounting nuts into place. Tighten the nuts in the recommended sequence to the specific torque. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Use anti-seize lubricant on the exhaust pipe studs and the EGR pipe nut. Run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
