To renew either rear parking brake cable, begin by removing the centre console. Chock the front wheels, jack up the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on axle stands while fully releasing the parking brake. Next, remove the
Parking Brake Shoes and the exhaust system intermediate section along with any necessary heat shields for access to the parking brake cables. Unclip the parking brake cable spring, undo the retaining bolt, and withdraw the cable from the brake backplate. Disconnect the retaining clips from the rear axle and release the cable from the clips on the fuel tank. Disconnect the relevant cable from the equalizer plate at the rear of the parking brake lever, then depress the legs of the outer cable end fitting to withdraw the cable from the floor panel. For refitting, reverse the removal process, ensuring to refit the parking brake shoes and check the parking brake adjustment upon completion. For the front cable, start by removing the centre console and measuring the number of exposed threads on the front cable adjuster before unscrewing the adjuster nut. Disconnect the two rear parking brake cables from the equalizer plate and withdraw the front cable complete with the equalizer plate from inside the car. When refitting, screw the adjuster nut onto the front cable to match the previously noted measurement and check the parking brake operation, adjusting if necessary.
