If the CV joints have to be overhauled usually because the boots are worn out consider all the possibilities before beginning the job; complete rebuilt driveaxles can be purchased on an exchange basis, which would save much time and energy. Pre disassembly, it is recommended to note the length of the inner CV joint, more so for the 2014 models and above since the manufacturer does not indicate the length dimension of the joint. Draining of the grease will start with the separation of drive/axle and boot clamps, withdrawal of the boot from inner CV joint, detachment of the retaining ring, and pulling off the joint housing, although not all the models will feature a retaining ring. Locate the direction for correct reassembly of the tripod and axleshaft, slide the snap-ring off the axleshaft, and also using a hammer and brass punch free the tripod joint from the driveaxle in such a manner that the bearing surfaces and splines must not be damaged. The solvent should wipe all components including gears to ascertain whether they are worn. To reassemble, fit the clamps and boot over the axleshaft, and using tape to fix and maintain the shape, whereas the splines must be covered by the tape to avoid damaging the boot; fit the tripod by identifying the chamfered faces that should face the axleshaft and apply grease on the tripod assembly, joint housing and the boot. On this step, housing and retaining ring should be installed to fit the boot; the boot must be placed correctly, and the joint length should be set; the boot clamps should be fastened. A new circlip must be installed on the inner CV joint stub axle together with the reinstallation of the driveaxle. For this, unlock the driveaxle and the boot clamps then follow the boot replacement process the aid of the slide hammer if required to pull the outer most CV joint. Check the condition of the bearing surfaces of the unit and use a grease packet to fill the joint before placing a boot with clamps, the pack should be full of grease. Last but not the least, mount the CV joint assembly onto the driveaxle with the splines the type of joint depending on its length inside the stipulated amount by hammering the joint with a hammer and small brass punch.
