Nissan Rogue Rack and Pinion Boot

The Nissan Rogue Rack and Pinion Boot is a rubber barrier that protects the steering rack from contamination damage. It seals the ends of the rack so that the internal gears and piston do not get exposed to moisture and dirt. Located on the lateral part of the rack tube and where the tie-rods connect, the Rack and Pinion Boot expands and contracts with the rack movement, preventing debris from entering while allowing for ease of steering movement. The Rack and Pinion Boot protects the hydraulic fluid from harmful particles that can contaminate O-ring seals and the inner tie-rod joint, preventing leaks that can make steering stiff or damage the gears. As such, having an undamaged Rack and Pinion Boot enables proper Nissan Rogue steering action and increases the service life of Rogue steering parts operating in high-pressure situations. The Nissan Rogue Rack and Pinion Boot runs all the time in the system, ensuring predictable handling in every Nissan vehicle of this model.

Nissan Rogue Rack and Pinion Boot Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot on a Nissan Rogue?
    A:
Lose the lugs, jack up the car and securely brace the car on jack stands before removing the wheel. Then, the tie-rod end and the jam nut need to be unscrewed and taken out. Next, unscrew the outer rack and pinion boot clamp and with a help of pliers, indicate the position of the tie-rod end on the threaded part of the tie-rod. Remove the inner boot clamp with diagonal cutters and slide the boot off from the wire. Before fitting the new boot, the threads present on the end of the steering rod should be covered with an aluminum tape so as not to damage the small end of the new boot. Shift the new boot to the place on the stepping gear where it will fit into the groove at the steering rod and buy new clamps. After stripping the tape, you can then put the tie-rod end. It is recommended then to replace the wheel and apply lug nuts, put down the car, and tightly tighten the lug nuts until getting to the recommended torque, and then inspect if the wheel alignment is proper and then adjust it if needed.
