Nissan Sentra Starter Motor

The Starter Motor of the Nissan Sentra transforms electrical energy from the battery into mechanical energy to rotate the engine. A solenoid mounted externally draws energy from the battery through heavy gauge wire and closes contacts that energize the Starter Motor armature and the surrounding field coils or permanent magnets. The Starter Motor drive gear rotates due to the armature, which spins due to electromagnetic force. The solenoid at the same time drives this gear into mesh with the flywheel or flexplate. The overrunning clutch disconnects later once the engine runs. Two confirmed configurations appear on the Nissan Sentra vehicle: a direct drive unit and a gear reduction type in which a reduction gear links the armature to the drive.
