Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed underneath the frame rails. Block the front wheels to keep the vehicle from rolling off the stands. Remove the rear wheels. Support the axle with a floor jack placed under the axle tube and raise it slightly to take the weight of the axle. Remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt. Remove the four U-bolt nuts, the spring plate, the two U-bolts and the small bumper on top of the spring. Lower the jack just enough to relieve spring tension. If you're working on the left side leaf spring, remove the rear storage box by removing the mudguard fasteners, then the mudguard. Remove the bracket-to-body bolts while supporting the storage box, then remove it. Remove the front spring fasteners. Remove the shackle-to-frame fasteners. Remove the spring assembly. Remove the shackle as necessary. If the bushings at the ends of the spring are worn or deteriorated, an automotive machine shop or dealer service department can press the old ones out and press new ones in. It's possible that the upper shackle bushings can be replaced without the use of special tools. Place the spring in position and install the front mounting fasteners, but don't tighten them yet. Raise the rear of the spring and shackle into position and install the mounting fasteners but don't tighten them yet. Raise the axle on the jack until it mates properly with the spring. Install the small bumper and U-bolts. the spring plate, then install new nuts. Tighten the U-bolt nuts, in a crisscross pattern. Install the storage box and lighten the bracket mounting fasteners securely. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle to the ground and bounce it a few times, then tighten the front, rear and shackle mounting fasteners. Tighten the lug nuts.
