First, always disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal when removing cables and lastly, connect it or else you can short out the battery with the tool you used to loosen the cable clamps. Even if you're only replacing a cable on the positive terminal, remember to disconnect the negative cable of it from the battery as well. Start by taking off the old cables from their connection points on the battery; then find where they lead to on their far ends and unfasten them. Take note of how each cable is routed before detaching it in order to ensure correct reinstallation. Therefore, take them along for replacement purposes when purchasing new cables. It is very important that you replace these with similar ones. For removing rusts and corruptions, cleanse threads of solenoid or ground connection using wire brushes while applying battery terminal corrosion inhibitor or petroleum jelly gently so as to stop further corrosion of threads. Then fix a mounting nut/bolt tightly once cable was fastened at solenoid/ground connection. Finally, check that it does not have to be pulled tight in order to reach a battery post before connecting new cable onto a battery.A Connect ground cable back onto negative side of a battery and first fasten positive battery terminal with this another cable B.
