- Q: How to remove and replace the A/C Compressor on a Nissan Xterra?A:Have the air conditioning system refrigerant discharged and recycled by an air conditioning technician. Disconnect the battery cable, set the parking brake, block the rear wheels and raise the front of the vehicle. Remove the drivebelt and disconnect the refrigerant lines from the compressor. Plug the open fittings, disconnect the compressor clutch wiring harness, unbolt the compressor and remove it. Transfer the clutch from the old compressor to the new unit, and add the proper amount of refrigerant oil to the new compressor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Have the system evacuated, recharged and leak tested by an air conditioning technician.
