Q:
How to remove, inspect, lubricate, and reinstall Release Bearing in a Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the release cylinder, transmission, boot, release lever, bearing and hub from the side of the transmission, noting how the release lever fingers are engaged by the wire retainer on the bearing. Inspect the release lever boot for cracks or tears, the wire retainer in the lever for damage or distortion, and the bearing for damage, wear and cracks. Push the wedge collar on the release bearing towards the engine and pry the release bearing from the diaphragm spring of the pressure plate. Remove the retaining pin and washer, pull out the pivot pin, then detach the lever. Lubricate the clutch release lever where it contacts the release bearing hub and the ballstud, attach the release bearing to the release lever, lubricate the clutch release lever ball stud or pivot pin with high-temperature grease, insert the release lever through the boot, slide the release bearing onto the input shaft bearing retainer and push the lever onto the ball stud until the lever retainer “pops” onto the stud. Apply a light coat of high-temperature grease to the face of the release bearing, where it contacts the pressure plate diaphragm fingers, and tighten all transmission-to-engine bolts to the torque.

Q:
How to access, inspect and replace Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing in a Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
A:
To access the clutch components, the transmission must be removed from the vehicle and the engine must be supported. If the engine is being removed for major overhaul, the clutch should be checked for wear and replaced if necessary. Otherwise, the clutch components should be replaced anytime the engine or transmission is removed unless they are new or in near perfect condition. To remove the clutch, the release bearing must be pushed towards the engine and pried from the diaphragm spring of the pressure plate. The flywheel and pressure plate must be inspected for indexing marks and all components should be inspected for wear. The flywheel should be checked for cracks, heat checking, grooves and other defects. The pilot bushing should be replaced and the lining on the clutch disc should have at least 1/32-inch (0.8 mm) of lining above the rivet heads. The release bearing should also be replaced along with the clutch disc. The machined surfaces and the diaphragm spring fingers of the pressure plate should be inspected for wear and damage. Before installation, the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces should be cleaned with brake system cleaner and the clutch disc should be centered using an alignment tool. The pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts should be tightened a little at a time in a criss-cross pattern and the release bearing should be lubricated with high-temperature grease. Finally, the transmission and all components should be reinstalled and tightened to the proper torque specifications.
