Q:
How to remove and install an A/C compressor in a Nissan 300ZX? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the negative cable at the battery and place the cable out of the way to prevent accidental contact with the negative terminal of the battery. Disconnect the coil wire from the distributor and move it out of the work area. Jack up the front of the car and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the splash shield. Remove the drivebelt from the compressor and disconnect both hoses leading to the compressor, plugging all openings immediately. Disconnect the electrical connector to the compressor by pressing down on the tab and pulling the connector apart. Remove the four nuts and bolts retaining the compressor to its bracket and lift off the compressor. Turn the compressor so the clutch is facing up and remove the compressor from the engine compartment, but be cautious not to leave the compressor on its side or upside down for more than 10 minutes at a time to prevent internal damage. Installation is the reverse of removal with the following notes: use new 0-rings at each connection when reconnecting the hoses to the compressor, check the tightness of the A/C compressor bracket bolts while the compressor is removed, turn the compressor clutch a few times by hand after installing the compressor, and adjust the compressor drivebelt tension. Once the compressor and all AIC lines have been securely connected, the car must be taken to a Nissan dealer or other qualified shop to have the system charged.
