Q:
How to safely remove a fuel tank from a Nissan Frontier? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the fuel tank from a Nissan vehicle, first relieve the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, siphon the fuel from the fuel tank into an approved fuel container, remove the rear seat and the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit access cover, disconnect the electrical connectors for the fuel pump and fuel level sending unit, disconnect the fuel feed and return lines, disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit wiring harness, remove the fuel filler tube protector, remove the fuel tank shield, loosen the hose clamps and detach the fuel tank filler hose and vapor hose from the fuel filler neck and the fuel tank, place a floor jack under the tank and position a wood plank between the jack pad and the tank, raise the jack until it's supporting the tank, remove the fuel tank mounting bolts, slowly lower the jack while guiding the fuel tank from under the vehicle, and remove the tank from the vehicle. Clean engine oil can be used as an assembly aid when pushing the fuel filler hose back onto the fuel tank.

Q:
What are the precautions and considerations for handling a damaged or contaminated fuel tank? Posted by Customer
A:
If the fuel tank is damaged or needs to be cleaned due to fuel contamination, it must be replaced and the cleaning process should be carried out by a professional. When the tank is removed from the vehicle, it should not be placed in an area where sparks or open flames could ignite the fumes coming out of the tank, as this could cause an explosion.
