    Q:
How to remove and install a cylinder head on Nissan Murano? Posted by Customer
    A:
To do it, first, turn off the coolant and then unbolt the timing chains as well as the sprockets and camshafts to eliminate the cylinder head. Next, locate and take off the intake and exhaust manifold, and the coolant outlet assembly. If front cylinder head is being removed, then disconnect the coolant hose and the coolant inlet having the thermostat assembly. Continue by whipping off the lower and upper oil pans followed by the rear timing chain cover bolts without scratching the cover or the sealing surfaces. It is necessary to pull out the utilized O-rings from the cylinder heads and the engine block, even if only one of the heads has been dismantled: Remove any label and disconnect any part still connected to the cylinder head, next, loosen the cylinder head bolts with increment of the same pattern opposite to that of tightening sequence lastly pull off the cylinder head from the engine block. For installation, be cleaning the mating surfaces with gasket scraper and brake cleaner and stuff the cylinders with the rag to avoid sullying the threads. Look for any signs of damage any where on the mating surfaces and run a chamfer on face of the head bolt holes. Put back the components taken out from the head; place the new gasket and gently place the head on the block without compromising on the position of the gasket. New head bolts must be covered with clean engine oil before fitting and tightened to the predetermined torque value, the rear timing chain cover and bolts should be cleaned and the mating surfaces should then be treated with RTV sealant. New O-rings should be installed and the rear timing chain cover has be fitted and its bolts tightened properly. Install back the camshafts and the timing chains and then follow the steps whereby components were removed in the opposite order. Last but not the least, place the engine in the vehicle, fill in the cooling system and engine oil, join the battery terminals, and switch on the engine with the check for any leaks.
