Q:
How to replace fuel injectors? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace fuel injectors, first relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the negative cable at the battery. Remove the upper air intake tube and the top part of the intake collector with the throttle chamber attached. Cover the intake ports with a rag. Disconnect the spark plug wires at the plugs and remove the distributor cap. Disconnect the fuel rails at the fuel regulator and fuel inlet tubes by loosening the hose clamps. Remove each of the injector retaining bolts and lift off the injector assembly. If any of the individual injectors are to be replaced, carefully cut through the hose to free the injector from the rail assembly. Install the new injector by wetting the new hose with gasoline, placing the umbrella onto the fuel rail and pressing the rubber hose onto the fuel rail. Install the fuel line hose clamps about a half of an inch up the hose. Lubricate the fuel line hoses with gas and install the injector assembly into the fuel line hoses. Once the hoses are attached insert each injector into its proper port. Install and tighten the hold-down bolt for each injector. Install the metal spring clips onto the injector electrical connector and slip the connector onto each of the injectors. Install a new gasket and set the intake collector in place. Route the wiring harness up over the collector. Install the fuel injector electrical connectors onto the injectors and secure with the metal clips. Connect the EGR tube to the collector. Connect all electrical connectors and vacuum/fuel hoses that were disconnected during removal. Replace the air regulator to the collector and secure it with the two retaining bolts. Install the electrical connector onto the air regulator. Reverse the remaining removal procedures for installation.
