To accomplish removal of the exhaust manifold, it is required to detach the cable of negative terminal on the battery. Lock the rear wheels, engage the parking brake, partially remove the lug nuts of the right front wheel, lift the front part of the vehicle, and put it on jackstands before finally removing the right front wheel. Subsequently, look for the engine splash shields and the right inner fender splash shield, and then the drivebelt portion. Continue by taking out the alternator and pull the electrical connection of the oxygen sensor. Next, unbolt and pull off the heat shield from the exhaust manifold while using penetrating oil on the bolts if required; similarly disconnect the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Undo the exhaust Manifold brace, the nuts holding the manifold to the cylinder head from outside progressively to the middle to come out with the manifold and gasket. When installing, it is necessary to scrape the mating surfaces of the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head, lay the new gasket over the cylinder head studs and put the manifold while tightening the nuts into the threads. Loosening the nuts first rather than tightening them, to the recommended torque and reassembly of the remaining components in the reverse order while applying anti seize lubrication on the studs of the exhaust pipe. Last, rejoin the battery and run the needed re-learn operations.

This procedure is for manual gearbox cars only as the engine has to be pulled off for exhaust manifolds on cars with automatic gearbox. Initially, you should evacuate the power steering fluid next, remove the front air inlet duct and hose with the air filter housing also. After that, remove the front subframe out of the vehicle. On the left front side remove some engine coolant, and then disconnect the negative terminal of the battery with the cable also in the computer reset the idle air volume learning in case it is disconnected. Take out the battery tray and the engine cooling fan assembly, excrete the heater hose from the engine, and take out the front engine mount support bracket. On the right rear side, remove the cowl, disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose, the EVAP hose, and support the engine by an appropriate item, then unbolt the rear engine mount. On both sides, undo the support brackets from the catalytic converter, unbolt or cut off the oxygen sensors, undo the heat shields of the exhaust manifold, unbolt the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold, slacken the nuts/bolts of the manifold gradually and unbolt the manifold along with the gaskets. For inspection use a precision straightedge and a feeler blade to check the flatness of the exhaust manifold sealing surface if area is warped replace manifold with a new one or have the manifold surfaced. To install, remove all the previous gasket material and burnt carbon from the mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head, place two new exhaust manifold gaskets on the studs of the cylinder head, fit the manifold in position and tighten the nuts and bolts on the studs. The nuts and bolts should be tightened in a gradually in an outward spiral to the correct torque, and on the 2011 and later models prior to that use the correct pattern for tightening. Last, return all the parts and reconnect the battery as well as the necessary re-learn procedures are to be done.
