Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Block the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the engine splash shields if equipped. Working underneath the vehicle, disconnect the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold by removing the nuts retaining the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold. Applying penetrating oil to the exhaust manifold fasteners may make removing the nuts/bolts easier. Working in the engine compartment, remove the lower heat shield from the exhaust manifold by removing the bolts retaining the lower heat shield to the exhaust manifold and remove the heat shield. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oxygen sensor. Remove the upper heat shield from the exhaust manifold. Disconnect the EGR pipe from the exhaust manifold. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts, working from the outside toward the middle, and detach the manifold and gaskets. Use a scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material and carbon deposits from the exhaust manifold and cylinder head mating surfaces. Position the new exhaust manifold gaskets over the cylinder head studs. Install the manifold and thread the mounting nuts into place. Tighten the nuts in the recommended sequence to the specific torque. Reinstall the remaining parts in the reverse order of removal. Use anti-seize lubricant on the exhaust pipe studs and the EGR pipe nut. Run the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
