Q:
How to troubleshoot issues with the blower motor in Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
This procedure is for vehicles with manual heating and air conditioning systems only. If the blower motor speed does not correspond to the selected setting on the blower switch or if the blower motor does not work at all, there could be an issue with the fuse, relay, switch, blower motor resistor, blower motor, or blower motor circuit wiring. Before checking the blower motor or circuit, always check the fuse and relay first. To access the heater case and blower motor, remove the glove compartment and lower dash trim. With the ignition key in the ON position, turn the blower switch to the faulty position(s) and use a test light or voltmeter to check the voltage at the motor electrical connector. If the motor is receiving voltage but not operating, there may be a bad motor ground or a faulty motor or fan. To check for a bad ground, disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor and connect a jumper wire between the ground wire terminal on the blower motor and a good ground. Then, connect a fused jumper wire between the battery positive terminal and the positive terminal on the blower motor. If the motor operates properly, the ground circuit or resistor is bad. If the motor does not operate, the fan may be binding or faulty. If the ground circuit to the motor is bad, check the blower resistor for proper operation. The blower motor resistor is located near the blower motor. Probe the wires at the resistor leading from the blower switch. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity to ground at the resistor electrical connector while the blower switch is rotated through all the switch positions. Continuity to ground should be present at three of the terminals in all switch positions except Off. If a ground signal does not exist at the blower resistor connector, repair the blower motor switch and/or the circuit leading to the switch. If a ground signal from the switch does exist at the blower resistor connector, check the blower resistor for continuity between the terminals. If any checks indicate infinite resistance, replace the blower resistor. To check the blower speed switch, unplug the electrical connector from the blower switch and check the continuity across the indicated switch terminals with an ohmmeter. If continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.

Q:
How to remove and replace a blower motor in a Nissan Maxima? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the glove compartment and lower dash trim to gain access to the heater case and blower motor. Detach the blower motor cover and disconnect the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove the blower motor cover screws and test voltage at the blower motor electrical connector. Remove the blower motor mounting screws, and pull the blower motor carefully out of the housing. If you are replacing the motor, detach the fan and transfer it to the new motor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Run the blower and check for proper operation.
