To service the fuel injectors on 1995 and later models, you can access the front bank without removing the upper intake manifold, but servicing the rear bank necessitates upper intake manifold removal. It's not obligatory to detach the fuel rail if you're only servicing a fuel injector, as individual fuel injectors can be removed without disconnecting the fuel rail. To begin, relieve the fuel pressure and disconnect the battery's negative cable. Remove the air intake plenum (upper intake manifold) from the lower intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors. On 2003 and earlier models, if you need to service the fuel injector(s), remove the injector cap screws and cap, then pull the injector(s) from the fuel rail cup, inspect the injector O-rings for wear, replace as needed, and lubricate the new O-rings with light oil. Be cautious not to use silicone grease. For 2004 and later models, spread the clip just enough to pull it off the injector and then remove the injector from the fuel rail. Inspect the injector O-rings for wear, replace as necessary, and lubricate the new O-rings with clean engine oil. If you must remove the fuel rail assembly, disconnect the fuel feed and return lines, then remove the fuel rail retaining bolts. Carefully lift the fuel rail and the fuel injectors as an assembly from the lower intake manifold. During installation, inspect the fuel rail insulators for wear, replace as needed, and lubricate them with oil before installing the fuel rail assembly onto the lower intake manifold. Tighten the fuel rail bolts in sequence following specified torque values, and for 2003 models, tighten the rear two bolts first and then the front two in two stages.
