Relieve the fuel pressure. When working on Frontier models, you must take the fuel tank out first. Turn off the fuel pressure supply, unplug the fuel feed line and return line, then remove all the screws holding the fuel pump into place. Grab and press the release tabs by the fuel tank, then take off the fuel lines' quick-connect fittings. Work carefully to take the fuel pump/sending unit out of the tank while being careful not to harm either the fuel level sending arm or the fuel float. Be careful when removing the fuel level float and sending unit - hitting or bending them might damage their ability to work correctly. Turn off power to the fuel pump and take fuel hose off the fitting where the fuel enters the pump. Push on the locking device, then remove the fuel pump and mounting bracket from around the fuel level sending unit. Look for dirt in the strainer and replace it right away if you see any. Put the fuel pump back onto the sending unit as you took it off. Wipe down both parts where the fuel pump connects: the pump flange and the tank mounting surface. Also make sure the seal ring groove is clean. Park an O-ring at the fuel tank opening and slide your combined fuel pump and sending unit unit into its place. Push the fuel lines back into their correct position, tighten the fuel pump/sending unit fixing bolts strongly, and reconnect the fuel lines. On Frontier models, install the fuel tank.

Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the T-fitting that was installed earlier. This gauge will help you measure the fuel pressure in the system.
