Q:
How do you remove the fuel pump and Fuel Level Sensor? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the fuel pump, start by relieving the fuel pressure and removing the rear seat. Then, remove the fuel pump/fuel level sensor access cover and disconnect the electrical connector. Detach the fuel feed and return lines and remove the fuel pump/sensor mounting screws, and for 1995 through 2003 models, remove the mounting ring. For 1993 and 1994 models, carefully maneuver the fuel pump/sensor assembly out of the tank and remove the fuel strainer. Loosen the fuel pump mounting clamp bolt, remove the fuel hose lower clamp, disconnect the electrical connector, and separate the fuel pump from the assembly. For 1995 through 1999 models, carefully maneuver the fuel level sensor assembly out of the tank, slide the hose clamp down the hose and remove the hose from the fitting, disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector, and reach inside the fuel tank to withdraw the fuel pump and housing assembly. For 2000 and 2001 models, remove the screws securing the pump assembly to the tank, lift the unit out, and carefully pry back the tabs to remove the flange. Free the temperature sensor wiring harness, disconnect the fuel level sensor, and label and disconnect the fuel lines. Remove the fuel level sensor, fuel filter, and fuel pump bracket before pulling out the fuel pump. For 2002 and 2003 models, remove the screws securing the pump assembly to the tank, and carefully lift the unit out. Free the tabs securing the fuel pump flange, fuel level sensor, and fuel filter, and unclip the pressure regulator. Pull the fuel pump out of the filter and remove its packing. For 2004 and later models, disconnect the hoses and electrical connector from the top of the fuel pump assembly, unscrew the locking ring, and lift the assembly out of the tank. Ensure the fuel lines are positioned correctly, then tighten the mounting bolts or lock ring securely, connect the electrical connector, and reinstall the access cover and rear seat.
