How to remove and install the Mechanical fuel pump on a Nissan 240sx? Posted by Customer
A:
The fuel pump is a mechanically operated, diaphragm type driven by the fuel pump eccentric on the camshaft. It is located on the right rear side of the cylinder head(CA20 engine). To remove and install, first disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump, keeping the line leading from the fuel tank up high to prevent the excess loss of fuel. Then, remove the two fuel pump mounting nuts and the fuel pump assembly from the right side of the engine. To install, use a new gasket, sealant and reverse the removal procedures. Torque the fuel pump bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. Replace the fuel line hose clamps as necessary. For testing static pressure, disconnect the fuel line at the carburetor. Using a T-connector, connect two rubber hoses to the connector, then install it between the fuel line and the carburetor fitting. Connect a fuel pump pressure gauge to the T-connector and secure it with a clamp. Start the engine and check the pressure at various speeds. The pressure should be 2.8-3.8 psi (19.3-26.2 kpa). If the pressure is OK, perform a capacity test. Remove the gauge and the T-connector assembly, then reinstall the fuel line to the carburetor. For the capacity test, disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and place the line in a graduated container. Fill the carburetor float bowl with gas. Start the engine and run it for one minute at about 1,000rpm. The pump should deliver 1.5 liter of volume per minute.

Q:
How to remove and install the electric fuel pump in Nissan 240sx? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and install the electric fuel pump in various Nissan models, follow these steps. First, ensure the fuel pressure is released, disconnect the negative battery cable, and take the necessary safety precautions. For the 200SX model with an external mount electric pump, disconnect the electrical harness connector at the pump, clamp the hose between the fuel tank and the pump, and remove the inlet and outlet hoses at the pump while draining fuel into a container. Unbolt and remove the pump, including the fuel damper if present. When installing, position the fuel pump correctly, reconnect hoses with new clamps, and ensure they are properly seated. Reconnect the electrical harness connector, start the engine, and check for fuel leaks. For 200SX and 240SX models with in-tank electric pumps, release fuel pressure, disconnect the negative battery cable, and access the pump through the trunk or by lowering/removing the fuel tank. Remove the necessary components, such as the fuel outlet and return hoses, locking ring, and O-ring, to lift the fuel pump assembly from the tank. When reinstalling, use a new O-ring and secure the pump assembly with the locking ring. Reconnect hoses and the electrical connection, reinstall the inspection cover (if applicable), and reconnect the battery cable. Remember to erase the control unit's memory code if needed. For Stanza models with an external mount electric pump, disconnect the negative battery cable, raise the rear of the vehicle on jackstands, and disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump. Place a fuel container beneath the fuel lines, disconnect the fuel lines to drain excess fuel, and remove the mounting braces and fuel pump. When reinstalling, connect the vehicle fuel lines, mount the pump, and reconnect the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery cable, start the engine, and check for leaks. For Stanza models with an in-tank electric pump, follow the same initial steps regarding the battery and access to the pump through the trunk or by removing the fuel tank. Disconnect the fuel outlet and return hoses, and use a brass drift pin and a hammer to remove the fuel tank locking ring. Lift the fuel pump assembly from the tank, and when reinstalling, use a new O-ring and secure the pump assembly with the locking ring. Reconnect hoses and the electrical connection, reinstall the inspection cover (if applicable), and reconnect the battery cable. Check for leaks after starting the engine. For testing the fuel system, ensure fuel pressure is released and connect a fuel pressure gauge between the fuel filter outlet and fuel feed pipe. Start the engine and check the pressure, which should meet specified values for different models. If pressure is incorrect, replace the pressure regulator and check for fuel line issues before considering replacement of the fuel pump or check valve if equipped. Always ensure the fuel filter is not blocked before replacing any fuel system components.
