    Q:
How to remove and install an oil pump in a 2.4L four cylinder Nissan Frontier? Posted by Customer
    A:
Position the engine at top dead centre of the number one cylinder. Remove the distributor cap and mark the position of the rotor to distributor housing. Remove oil pump attaching bolts and separate pump and driveshaft from engine. If need be, use needle nose pliers to uncouple oil pump driveshaft from crankshaft drive gear. In order to access the oil pump pick-up tube, remove the oil pan. Lift off the pick-up to detach it from engine by removing its mounting bolts. Unbolt oil pump cover(s) from body, then pull out rotors inboard and outboard of it. Inspect for wear or damage all components and clean them thoroughly. Take apart relief valve and check for any damage on it. Then compare results with feeler gauge measurements of oil pump component clearances using same method as before. Go ahead to put together oil pump components followed by pouring clean engine oil into cavity provided for this purpose in oil pump. Next, tighten fasteners after fitting new gasket over cover during assembly process of an oil pump unit. Lower timing chain cover needs a new gasket while installing on a pump bodytowards lower end of an oil pump unit being installed. The aligned marks must be checked after inserting an oil driveshaft into an end portion of an oillpump that is aligned with marks made already as referred above in step 5.To install an oil pump ontothe engine make sure that those aligning marks remain intact and you are good to go.Installation continues with installation of all remainingmounting bolts meant for fixing downoil pumps onto engines. As such, if you removed your sump or took off your pickup tube then put a new gasketon its face back side again and reinstall pan back over wherein it was.If necessary replace old filter with another one which is brand-new; also pour somefreshly added engine-oil inside crankcase." It is time now to start this machine and see if its oil pressure is enough; at thesame time check if there is any leaking. Check engine oil level once again just to be sure.

    Q:
How to remove the oil pump on 3.3L V6 Nissan Frontier? Posted by Customer
    A:
To fix Frontiers and Xterras, you need to start by taking the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket off, then the oil pan. Take both the alternator and its mounting brackets loose from their position on the engine. Detach the power steering pump keeping its hoses on, then lay it safely to the side. Take off the power steering pump bracket. Carefully loosen and take off the bolts holding the oil pick-up tube to the bottom of the engine, remove the bracket that supports the pick-up tube, and pull the tube free from the oil pump. When clearing the front end of the engine, keep the oil filter adapter bolted to the pump while removing the connecting bolts between the engine and oil pump. Rock the oil pump away from the engine to release the seal, and pull it off the two blocks holding it in place. Scrape to remove all old gasket material and sealant before washing both joints with light carpers. Take out the screws keeping the back cover on the oil pump. Wash all components with solvent, and check for wear or damage signs before you begin. Before replacing them, check for faulty springs and valves on the oil pressure regulator cap while you remove cap, washer, spring, and valve from the pump. Check oil pump part clearances with gauges. Replace entire pump if any gaps are too big. Dip the oil pump in petroleum jelly to make sure it works, then set and fasten all screws properly. Place the oil pressure regulator valve, spring, and washer, and tighten down the cap. Fit the oil pump-to-block gasket above the dowels on the engine block, make sure the crankshaft flat faces line up with the oil pump rotor, place the oil pump on the block, and bolt it down by tightening all fasteners to their prescribed torque. Put a fresh oil seal on the tube pick-up tube's flange, reattach it carefully, and tighten the bolts to meet the right torque requirements. Make sure you replace the rubber end seals between the oil pump and the lower timing belt cover right before you put everything back together.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pump on 3.5L V6 Nissan Xterra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the primary timing chain and the crankshaft sprocket. It is not necessary to remove the camshaft sprockets, the camshaft sprocket bolts, the secondary timing chains or the primary timing chain tensioner pivot arm/chain guide during this procedure. Simply pivot the tensioner arm/chain guide over to the left side to allow removal of the oil pump housing. Remove the oil pans. Remove the oil pump pick-up tube. Remove the oil pump-to-engine block bolts from the front of the engine. Gently pry the oil pump housing outward enough to clear the dowel pins on the engine block and remove it from the engine. Use a large Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws holding the front cover on the oil pump housing. Clean all components with solvent, then inspect them for wear and damage. Remove the oil pressure regulator cap, washer, spring(s) and valve. Check the oil pressure regulator valve sliding surface and valve spring. If either the spring or the valve is damaged, they must be replaced as a set. Check the clearance of the following oil pump components with a feeler gauge and compare the measurements to the specific clearances: Rotor tooth tip clearance, Outer rotor-to-body clearance, Cover-to-inner rotor clearance, Cover-to-outer rotor clearance, Inner rotor ridge clearance. If any clearance is excessive, replace the entire oil pump assembly. Pack the pump with petroleum jelly to prime it. Assemble the oil pump and tighten the screws securely. Install the oil pressure regulator valve. spring and washer, then tighten the oil pressure regulator valve cap. Use new gaskets on all disassembled parts and reverse the removal procedure for installation. Align the flats on the crankshaft with the flats on the oil pump gear. Tighten all fasteners to the specific torque. Before installing the oil pan, be sure to replace the O-rings on the oil pump housing and engine block.
