Q:
How to perform an inspect of the Brake Disc on Nissan Armada? Posted by Customer
A:
To perform an inspection of the brake system, begin by loosening the wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle, and securely supporting it on jackstands, followed by wheel removal. When inspecting the disc surface, carefully check for score marks, cracks, or any other damage, with minor scratches and shallow grooves often being normal wear. However, deep score marks or cracks may necessitate disc refinishing or replacement. Disc runout can be assessed using a dial indicator, where any reading exceeding 0.003 of an inch could lead to brake pedal pulsation and require refinishing or replacement. Ensure that the disc thickness remains above the specified minimum refinish thickness, as indicated on the disc itself. In case of removal and installation, mark the disc's position in relation to the hub before removing it, then clean the hub flange and inside of the brake disc thoroughly to remove rust or corrosion before installing the disc. When installing front calipers, also install the caliper mounting bracket with new bolts and subsequently attach the brake pads and caliper. Tighten all mounting bolts to their specified torque values, and after reinstalling the wheels and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque, and depress the brake pedal to bring the pads into contact with the disc. Bleeding of the system is only necessary if the brake hose or line was disconnected from the caliper, so carefully check brake operation before returning the vehicle to normal service.
