Remove the cotter pin, the nut lock, and the felt washer from the driveaxle/hub nut.

The inner ends of the driveaxles are equipped with sliding constant velocity joints, which can perform both angular and axial motion. The inner joints can be of the "ball and cage" type or the "tripod type." Early models use the ball and cage design, which consists of ball bearings running between an inner race and an outer cage. These can be disassembled, cleaned, and inspected, but must be replaced as a single unit if defective. Later models use the tripod design, which also allows for disassembly, cleaning, and inspection, but must similarly be replaced as a single unit if defective.
