Q:
How to remove and install a Brake Light Switch in a Nissan 350Z? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the brake light switch, depress and hold the brake pedal, rotate the switch about 45 degrees counter clockwise and remove it from its bracket. Disconnect the electrical connector for the brake light switch and remove it. To install the switch, pull up on the brake pedal (it will move slightly upward), place the switch into the bracket filling until it touches the rubber stop on the brake pedal bracket, then turn the switch 45-degrees clockwise to lock it in place. Press and release the brake pedal and make sure that there is a small gap between the threaded portion of the switch and the rubber stop of about 1 to 2 mm. Inspect the mounting bracket for the switch(s) and confirm that any welds or rivets are fully intact. Test the brake lights for proper operation. If the switch for the speed control is also being removed, use the same procedure unless it is equipped with a locknut setup, in which case, loosen the locknut and unscrew the switch to remove it.
