    Q:
How to diagnose and replace the Cruise Control Module and Cruise Control Switch in the cruise control system on a Nissan Frontier? Posted by Customer
    A:
There is a cruise control system that ensures the car moves at a constant speed, with a vacuum actuated servo motor connected with the throttle linkage by means of a cable. It is made up of servo motor, brake switch, vacuum pump, control switches, relay and related vacuum hoses. To find common issues we can use general procedures. First of all inspect the fuse. Then inspect the shift lock/cruise control brake switch and clutch switch (on manual transmission models). Make adjustments or replacements if necessary. Next, examine the control cable between the cruise control servo/amplifier and throttle linkage and replace or adjust as needed. The transmission also has a speed sensing device that can be tested. To check for continuity between indicated terminals in different switch positions in the cruise control switches which are located either on the right side of the steering wheel or on instrument panel. If not as specified replace faulty switch. For steering-wheel mounted switch unplug battery cable, remove switch pod cover mounting screws and unplug electrical connector while for instrument-panel mounted switch remove this component from instrument panel by prying carefully out of it and then displace electrical connector to push out switch from carrier thereof. The ascot unit is located under the left side of instriment panel can be removed by unscrewing mounting fasteners then unplugging electrical connector next reinstalling in reverse order.
