To check the combination switch for 1999 and earlier models, disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, then remove the combination switch for testing. Use an ohmmeter to check for continuity between the indicated terminals with the various switches in each position; if continuity is not as specified, replace the defective switch. For replacement in 2001 and earlier models, disconnect the battery cable, remove the steering wheel, the driver's knee bolster, and steering column covers, then take out the airbag clockspring and the combination switch retaining screws. Slide the switch off the column, unplug the connectors, and remove the defective switch by taking out the mounting screws. Insert the terminals from the new switch into the connector until securely locked, and reinstall in reverse order, ensuring to center the clockspring before putting the steering wheel back. For 2002 and later models, the lighting and wiper/washer switches can be replaced separately without removing the steering wheel or airbag clockspring; simply remove the driver's side lower instrument panel cover and steering column cover, then remove the screws or disengage the tabs of the switch to be replaced and pull it off the steering column, reinstalling in reverse order. For checking cruise control switches in 1999 and earlier models, locate the cruise control switch pod on the right side of the steering wheel, remove it for testing, and check for continuity with an ohmmeter. If continuity is not as specified, replace the defective switch. For replacement, disconnect the battery cable, pry off the cruise control switch pod cover, remove the switch mounting screws, take out the switch, and unplug the electrical connector, then reinstall in reverse order.
