Q:
How to detach, adjust, and reattach the accelerator cable and cruise control cable in a Nissan Frontier? Posted by Customer
A:
Detach the accelerator cable and the cruise control cable (if equipped) from the throttle lever, loosen the cable locknut and adjusting nut, then separate the accelerator cable from the cable bracket, pull the cable end out from the accelerator pedal arm, then pass the cable through the slot in the arm, disconnect any remaining cable clips, and remove the cable through the firewall from the engine compartment side. Installation is the reverse of removal, and to adjust the accelerator cable, lift up on the cable to remove any slack, turn the adjusting nut until the throttle lever just starts to move, back off the adjusting nut 1-1/2 to 2 turns, tighten the locknut, and verify that the throttle valve opens all the way when you depress the accelerator pedal to the floor and that it returns to the idle position when you release the accelerator. To adjust the cruise control cable, check the accelerator cable for proper adjustment, turn the adjusting nut until the throttle lever just starts to move, back off the adjusting nut 1/2 to 1 turn, tighten the locknut, and check for proper operation of the cruise control system.
