Q:
How do you adjust the Throttle Valve cable to ensure proper transmission shift points and what steps are involved in the adjustment process? Posted by Customer
A:
If the Throttle Cable is not adjusted properly, the transmission shift points will be incorrect. To adjust the cable, first remove the air filter housing, pull up on the Throttle Cable to create some slack, then pass the cable through the slot in the lever as you slide the cable end out of the lever, detach the cable casing from the bracket, drain the transmission fluid, then remove the fluid pan, detach the Throttle Cable from its lever, then remove the bolt and detach the cable from the transmission, detach the cable adjuster from its bracket, and remove the cable. Make sure the ignition switch is in the Off position, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, depress the lock plate on the cable adjuster and pull the adjusting tube toward the adjuster, release the lock plate, have an assistant quickly depress the throttle open to the full throttle position and then release it, using a piece of tape or a grease pen, mark the cable where it exits the boot above the adjuster, place a ruler alongside the Throttle Cable and measure the total stroke of the cable as your assistant depresses the throttle fully once again, and if the cable stroke does not fall within the specified range, repeat the steps.
