The adjustment procedure for the accelerator cable and the cruise control cable is similar except where noted. For removal, detach the accelerator cable and the cruise control cable from the throttle lever by rotating the throttle lever until the slot aligns with the cable, then pass the cable through the slot. Loosen the cable locknut and adjusting nut, then separate the accelerator cable from the bracket. Pull the cable end out from the accelerator pedal arm, passing the cable through the slot in the arm, and remove the bolts securing the cable to the firewall. Disconnect any remaining cable clips and remove the cable through the firewall from the engine compartment side. For installation, reverse the removal process, ensuring the cable is routed correctly and fasten all retaining clips. If necessary, apply sealant to the accelerator cable bracket at the engine compartment side to prevent water entry. For accelerator cable adjustment, lift up on the cable to remove slack. Turn the adjusting nut until the throttle lever starts to move, then back off two to three turns. Tighten the locknut and check cable deflection, which should be approximately 3/8 to 1/2-inch. Ensure the throttle valve opens fully when the accelerator is depressed and returns to idle upon release. Verify smooth cable operation without binding or sticking. For cruise control cable adjustment, first ensure the accelerator cable is properly adjusted. Turn the adjusting nut until the throttle lever starts to open, then back off until it reaches the closed position. Back off the adjusting nut one more turn, tighten the locknut, and check the cruise control system operation.
