Remove the cable from the battery's negative terminal and apply the parking brake. In vehicles that have manual transmissions, remove the shift lever knob. If your Frontier is a V6 or any Xterra with floor shift, carefully pry away the plastic trim panel around the shift lever. The shift lever trim panel attaches with plastic clips. Locate these clips and pry at these locations. Additionally, remove the four screws (two on each side) of the front console and detach it from vehicle. In case of column-shift Frontiers models, first take out cup holder then remove small center console from instrument panel. On manual transmission Frontiers and Xterras, unbolt screws retaining the shift lever console to floor. Pull back on this console up and off of this stickshift. To detach rear console/glove box just take away four screws(two on each side) of rear console followed by detaching it from vehicle as shown below: Pry off plastic trim panel surrounding shifter.Pull out lower trim cover beneath parking brake handle.Open up your console ashtray.Unscrew screw under ashtray on Pathfinder models.Release screw in lower part of trim cover beneath parking brake grip.
