When parking your 240SX using the hand brake, pull the lever until you feel resistance in 6-8 notches, let go of the brake, and it should be ready to use. Turn the adjusting nut clockwise to decrease parking brake notches until you reach 6 to 8 full engagements, tighten the locknut, which is found inside the hand brake assembly. In some cars, you can either access the locknut through the parking brake console machine or by removing a specific access hole in the console. Make sure both rear brake calipers move back to their normal position each time you release the lever, and the rear cables stay tight. To detach and put in the front cable, start with removing the parking brake console and heat shield if they exist, then take out the front passenger seat if needed. Disconnect the warning lamp plug, unbolt the lever from the floor below, and beneath the car remove the locknut, adjusting nut, and equalizer before pulling the cable out through the compartment. You do the opposite steps to take out the lever, then adjust its travel range when putting it all back together. To move the rear cable, start by turning down the bolt that controls the cable tightness. Pull the wire at cable junction, first from below the vehicle. Remove the metal locking plate from the vehicle's back suspension section and take the cable out of the back brakes and arm. The cable can then be taken away. To install the cable and release the path, follow the removal steps backwards. Then adjust how far the lever moves for the right length.
