To pull out the wheel cylinder one has to lift the rear part of the car with a jack and set it on jackstands, and turn the wheels with the crowns up, so that the front ones do not roll. Subsequently, take out the brake shoe assembly and wipe the area around the wheel cylinder free from dirt and other materials. Remove the brake line fitting by unscrewing it but ensure that the screw does not pull the line away from the cylinder and that if a flare-nut wrench is present, then use it for fear of straining the fitting. Next, unbolt the wheel cylinder and take it off the brake backing plate, which will require the removal of the wheel cylinder mounting bolts; when doing this, plug the brake line to prevent the loss of the brake fluid as well as contamination, this can be done using golf tees or rubber vacuum caps. If the brake shoe linings have been soaked by brake fluid, new brake shoes are to be placed and the drums should be washed with the brake system cleaner. For installation, put ATV sealant on the mating surface of the wheel cylinder and on the brake backing plate, place the cylinder and join the brake line, but do not tightly screw the fitting at this time. Screw in the mounting bolts, and adjust the torque appropriately; then tighten the brake line fitting as well as the brake shoe assembly. Last but not the least, release the brake and also test the brake before moving the car out on the road with heavy traffic.
