The oil pump is located inside the timing chain cover and is driven by the crankshaft, requiring the removal of the timing chain cover for access. Begin by removing the bolts or screws that secure the oil pump cover to the oil pump body, then disassemble the inner and outer rotors, taking care to avoid any nicks or damage, as these can affect oil pressure and necessitate replacement of the entire pump and timing chain cover assembly. Clean all components, including the timing chain cover and engine block gasket surfaces, with solvent, and inspect for excessive wear or damage. Disassemble the relief valve by removing the cap, washer, spring, and regulator valve, checking the sliding surface and valve spring for damage; if either is damaged, replace them as a set. If no damage is found, reassemble the relief valve parts with clean engine oil and reinstall it in the oil pump cover. Check the oil pump component clearance with a feeler gauge and compare the results; if any specifications are exceeded, replace both the timing chain cover and the oil pump components. Assemble the oil pump components, ensuring the punch marks on each rotor face away from the timing chain cover and toward the engine, then pour clean engine oil into the pump cavity and around the rotors before installing the cover and tightening the fasteners to the specified torque. Install the timing chain cover with a bead of RTV sealant on the cover-to-block surface, aligning the flats on the inner oil pump rotor with the crankshaft during installation. Next, install the oil pan, a new oil filter, and add engine oil to the crankcase. Start the engine to check for oil pressure and leaks, perform any necessary re-learn procedures, and recheck the engine oil level.

To remove the primary timing chain and crankshaft sprocket, it is not necessary to detach the camshaft sprockets, camshaft sprocket bolts, secondary timing chains, or primary timing chain tensioner pivot arm/chain guide; simply pivot the tensioner arm/chain guide to the left to facilitate the removal of the oil pump housing. Next, take off the oil pans and remove the oil strainer-to-oil pump bolts from the lower section of the oil pump, followed by the oil pump-to-engine block bolts. Gently pry the oil pump housing outward to clear the dowel pins on the engine block and remove it. For inspection, use a large Phillips screwdriver to take off the screws securing the front cover on the oil pump housing, clean all components with solvent, and inspect for wear and damage. Remove the oil pressure regulator cap, washer, spring(s), and valve, checking the oil pressure regulator valve sliding surface and valve spring; if either is damaged, replace them as a set. Measure the clearance of various oil pump components with a feeler gauge, including rotor tooth tip clearance, outer rotor-to-body clearance, cover-to-inner rotor clearance, cover-to-outer rotor clearance, and inner rotor ridge clearance; if any clearance is excessive, replace the entire oil pump assembly. Assemble the oil pump, ensuring screws are tightened securely, pack the pump with grease to prime it, and install the oil pressure regulator valve, spring, and washer before tightening the oil pressure regulator valve cap. For installation, reverse the removal process, using new gaskets where applicable on all disassembled parts, align the flats on the crankshaft with those on the oil pump gear, and tighten all fasteners to the specified torque, ensuring to replace the O-rings on the oil pump housing and engine block before installing the oil pan.
