    Q:
How to properly remove and install a brake disc on Nissan Altima? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and install the lug nuts to hold the disc in place; if the lug nuts don't contact the disc when screwed on all the way, install washers under them. Remove the brake caliper without disconnecting the brake hose, and suspend the caliper out of the way with a piece of wire after removing the caliper bolts. Visually inspect the disc surface for score marks and other damage; light scratches and shallow grooves are normal, but deep scoring over 0.039-inch (1.0 mm) requires disc removal and refinishing. Check both sides of the disc, as severe wear may necessitate replacement. If pulsating occurs during brake application, suspect disc runout. To check runout, place a dial indicator about 112-inch from the outer edge of the disc, set it to zero, and turn the disc; the reading should not exceed the allowable runout limit. Resurfacing the discs when replacing brake pads is advisable to ensure a smooth finish and eliminate brake pedal pulsation. If not resurfacing, remove the glaze from the surface with emery cloth using a swirling motion. Ensure the disc is not machined to a thickness under the specified minimum allowable refinish thickness, which can be checked with a micrometer. Remove the two caliper mounting bracket bolts and detach the caliper mounting bracket, fully releasing the parking brake on rear discs. Remove the lug nuts holding the disc in place and take the disc off the hub; if a rear disc is stuck, remove the rubber plug from the parking brake adjuster hole and use a small screwdriver to turn the star wheel and retract the parking brake shoes. Place the disc in position over the threaded studs, install the caliper mounting bracket over the disc, and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Install the caliper and tighten the bolts to the specified torque, then install the wheel, lower the vehicle to the ground, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. Depress the brake pedal a few times to bring the brake pads into contact with the disc, and check the operation of the brakes carefully before driving the vehicle.

    Q:
How to inspect and replace brake discs, including checking disc runout, resurfacing, and installing new discs and pads on Nissan Sentra? Posted by Customer
    A:
To begin, loosen the lug nuts and raise your car on jack stands in order to inspect the brakes. Remove the wheel and fix the lug nuts in so that they can hold the disc. Remove brake caliper and hang it aside using wire. Look at the surface of disc for score marks or others damages. Some scratches and shallow grooves are normal, but deep scoring requires refacing a disc after dismantling it. Both sides of the disc should be checked. Using a dial indicator, check for runout by placing it near the outer edge of a disc and rotating it. The gauge reading should not exceed the specified runout limit. If it does, refinish the disc. It is recommended to resurface discs whenever brake pads are replaced. Otherwise, remove any glazed finish with sandpaper or other abrasive material like emery cloth etc. Measure disk thickness with micrometer or vernier calliper gauge as appropriate. To take off the disk, remove caliper mounting bracket and hub onto which you just lifted out lug nuts from your drive axel hub assembly onto which you just lifted out lug nuts from your drive axel hub assembly through this last step four words need to be removed so that meaning could be clear then lift out disk from hub assembly onto which you just lifted out lug nuts from your drive axle. The caliper mounting bracket holds new disk in place; therefore put new one over threaded studs and install this part right here.Tighten bolts. The bolts are tightened.Installation of wheel is done by tightening lug nuts while lowering vehicle against ground.Pushing down brake pedal brings pads into contact with rotor.Check the brakes before driving.
