    Q:
How to remove the steering wheel on Nissan Pathfinder? Posted by Customer
    A:
First disconnect the cable from the battery's negative terminal, then from the positive side, and wait at least ten minutes before working more. Pop off the small cover from under the steering wheel, and disconnect the connector that links the airbag system. Open the side panels, get the Torx bolts behind them, and get rid of the old bolts. When you put everything back together, replace the bolts with new ones. Slide off the airbag from its spot under the steering wheel and adjust the steering wheel until the front tires face forward. Keep track of how the steering wheel connects to the shaft and what position the wheel has before you take it off its nut. Remove the connector for the cruise control wiring harness from its electrical plug and take off the horn connector if needed. Loosen the steering wheel to free it from the steering column using a steering wheel puller tool, but be careful not to tangle wires from the airbag module and cruise control system. Unscrew the clockspring only when you need to reach steering column switches. Cover the clockspring's hub with tape to keep it in the right position. Check that both front wheels face forward, and match the cancel button for turn signals with its slit on the combination switch if you removed the clockspring assembly. Turn the clockspring for the airbag under the steering wheel clockwise until movement stops, then flip it counterclockwise two and one-half turns for models with power steering or four full turns for those without. Make sure the arrow on the bottom of the clockspring points to the pin when you're done. Unplug the wires from the airbag module and cruise control system and pass them all through the steering wheel's center before snapping it on, making sure the guide for the clockspring pin catches both ends properly. Put on the steering wheel securing nut and make sure you tighten it to the required force, as specified. Fix the airbag module with new Torx bolts, then put back on the cruise control and stereo control switches (when installed). Attach the airbag module connector, then put the lower cover back. Fire up the engine. Make sure the steering wheel swings easily both left and right to check that the clockspring is centered correctly. Check the airbag function by switching on the engine, making sure the "AIR BAG" warning light comes on for a few seconds and then goes out.
