2000 Nissan Quest Cylinder Head Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disassemble and inspect a cylinder head on 2000 Nissan Quest?
A: Purchasing new or remanufactured cylinder heads is usually not difficult and sellers' access to new heads means that it is easier and cheaper for the home mechanic to purchase heads rather than to remove, examine, and recondition the originals. Dependent on the level of work to be undertaken on the cylinder head, this may require detaching the intake/exhaust valves, including other components such as the rocker arms, lifters, and cam shafts and all these should be-numbered or organized for reassembly in their specific positions. They should not be laid on their side or upside down to avoid trapping air in them, but they can be Laid on their side provided they are submerged in clean engine oil until they are re-assembled. Before cutting out these valves, it is necessary to label and, along with their components, store them so that they can be reinstalled into these valve guides. Lift the first valve and unbolt and remove the valves spring with the help of a spring compressor then remove the valve stem lock, then let go of the spring compressor, finally pulling out the retainer, the spring and spring seat if any. Withdraw the valve from the cylinder head and take off the O-ring from the guide; if the valve sticks, then finish off the final machining around the lock of the stem. Do the same for the other valves and place all of the parts where they can be easily located for reassembly. Fasten the valves and components aside, after which wash and check out the cylinder head, carry out overall engine dismantling in case of overall engine reconditioning before actually starting with washing and checking the components.
