2011 Nissan Sentra Transmission Assembly Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to drain the transaxle fluid and remove the engine and automatic transmission assembly from the 2011 Nissan Sentra?
A: Siphon the transaxle fluid out and then pull the engine and transaxle assembly out of the vehicle. Some connectors and all the harness brackets should be detached, and the wires or the wiring harness should be removed from the transaxle. If not done previously, torques and remove the starter, and paint match marks on the torque converter as well as the driveplate for easy reassembly. The nuts can be accessed and brought off via the starter opening while aligning the torque converter stud to the driveplate. Place something beneath the transaxle to support it, ideally with a floor jack and a transmission adapter and then remove the bolts that hold the engine to the transaxle and keep these for re-use later. Disconnect the transaxle from the engine then restrain it, sliding it aside, and strip all the external fixings on the transaxle if required while plugging any access points to prevent contamination. New kit O-rings, and copper washers, flush the transaxle cooler / lines with solvent and confirm there is no solvent remaining. Attached to the torque converter, make sure that the torque converter hub is firmly locked in the pump with the front side of the converter in the appropriate position. Turning the transaxle in relation to the engine, bring the torque converter in close proximity to the marks on the driveplate and bring the transaxle forward to engage it. Screw in the transaxle mounting bolts in the correct positions that do not require much force then tighten them to the required torque. Torque the torque converter bolts, replace it and fasten the assembly in a sequence opposite to its dismantling. Add the recommended amount of fluid into the transaxle noting that it may take more fluid than the change due to the torque converter may have been empty. Turn the ignition on and move the parking brake; shift the transaxle through all the gears with the shift cable three times. Let the engine warm up with the transaxle in Park or Neutral and inspect the fluid quality, the level included. Last, take out the vehicle for road test & check for fluids leakage in and around the car.
