2014 Nissan Juke Cylinder Head Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and refit a cylinder head on 1.2L petrol 2014 Nissan Juke?
A: First of all, the camshafts and followers, inlet and exhaust manifold, fuel rail with injectors, and thermostat housing must be taken off to remove the cylinder head. Ease off the ten main cylinder head bolts and turn them out of the head in the sequence of tightening with half turn at a time until they come out easily. Take out the cylinder head bolts and deliver the washers properly oriented with the head; separate the cylinder head from the block with the gasket still attached and be careful with the locating dowels. When the head has been removed, clean the mating faces of the cylinder head and block/crankcase with a hard plastic of wood scraper to remove all gasket and carbon residues and ensure that no debris gets into the oil and water passages. Wrap the water, oil, and bolt holes with adhesive and paper and put a small amount of grease at the gaps between the pistons and bores to reduce contamination by carbon. When you are done cleaning, you should scrub each piston with a small brush and wipe the left over grease and carbon with a rag. Check the mating surfaces for fitness for purpose and use a file for superficial damage, for deeper and serious damage, machine the surface. Check the cleanliness of the cylinder head bolt holes because presence of any oil may compromise on the tightening torque and may damage the block. Always remove and replace the cylinder head bolts even if they show no signs of wear and toss, inspect and straight edge for warping of the cylinder head gasket surface. For refitting, clean the mating faces once more and make sure that the locating dowels are in place. Place a new gasket on the cylinder block/crankcase surface laying it on the dowels and then with help, refit the cylinder head assembly. Well-lubricated oil to the threads and underside of the new cylinder head bolts before fitting the washers and tightening to the hand-tightness. The specific tightening sequence and torque are recommended and have to be followed to a 'T,' then supplemented with angle tightening. Last but not the least, place the thermostat housing, the fuel rail, injectors, exhaust manifold, inlet manifold and the camshafts with the followers back on.
