Nissan 240SX Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Mechanical fuel pump on a Nissan 240sx?
    A:
The fuel pump is a mechanically operated, diaphragm type driven by the fuel pump eccentric on the camshaft. It is located on the right rear side of the cylinder head(CA20 engine). To remove and install, first disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump, keeping the line leading from the fuel tank up high to prevent the excess loss of fuel. Then, remove the two fuel pump mounting nuts and the fuel pump assembly from the right side of the engine. To install, use a new gasket, sealant and reverse the removal procedures. Torque the fuel pump bolts to 7-9 ft. lbs. Replace the fuel line hose clamps as necessary. For testing static pressure, disconnect the fuel line at the carburetor. Using a T-connector, connect two rubber hoses to the connector, then install it between the fuel line and the carburetor fitting. Connect a fuel pump pressure gauge to the T-connector and secure it with a clamp. Start the engine and check the pressure at various speeds. The pressure should be 2.8-3.8 psi (19.3-26.2 kpa). If the pressure is OK, perform a capacity test. Remove the gauge and the T-connector assembly, then reinstall the fuel line to the carburetor. For the capacity test, disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and place the line in a graduated container. Fill the carburetor float bowl with gas. Start the engine and run it for one minute at about 1,000rpm. The pump should deliver 1.5 liter of volume per minute.
