With respect to the future, periodically examine battery cable for harm, broken or scorched cover and corrosion from one end to another along with any crevice on the terminal connector for cracks, loose wires and rust. Under insulation is a sign of corrosion which has occurred requiring you to replace that battery cabl. Bent terminals, lose bolts and rust are some other signs that you should look out for in terminals. The negative cable should be removed last when taking off cables to prevent accidental grounding. If they exist, bring the original cables to the store so that you can have similar ones that will fit in place. Use a wire brush on solenoid and ground terminal threads before applying anti-rust or Vaseline. Attach the cord firmly after cleaning it using a wire brush. Finally when attaching a new cable make sure it does not stretch by reaching its length to the battery post before connecting the positive one followed by negative. For grounding cables replacement, disconnect from the car body then negative battery terminals as well as return reverse removal process .
